Well folks, we have made it through 12 full days of a new school year, and it has been a wonderful start! Things have been busy for this school counselor, but I would not trade in my job for anything. I absolutely love being a Forsyth Panther!
To catch you all up on some happenings in the counseling program thus far in the school year, I want to let you know that I am extremely impressed by the students that we have at Forsyth Middle School. Our FMS Character Council was working very hard for the past two weeks to bring together our first Character Assembly on Thursday, September 1st. They did a wonderful job! Students at the assembly were very respectful, and they seemed to be engaged in what the assembly had to offer.
The Character Word for the month of September is RESPECT, and our FMS students do an excellent job of displaying this in their daily activities. At the assembly, there were several opportunities offered for students to participate in this semester:
1. The Branson Bank Calendar Contest was presented by Dr. Goss as an opportunity for students to participate in this creative competition:
2. The Chef, Chef Rob Corliss, presented an opportunity for students to participate in an Iron Chef Competition coming to Forsyth Middle School this Fall. This video was shown to give a basic overview of what the competition may look like. Except, this year, our challenge dish will be a sandwich rather than a pizza, which is what is displayed in the video. Stay tuned for more information: http://m.ky3.com/video-4th-annual-nixa-student-iron-chef-competition/21050392_38112840
3. Mrs. Knight represented STUCO for students who would like to be involved in Forsyth Middle School Student Council. If a student is interested in participating in STUCO, please contact Mrs. Knight to complete the application ASAP.
4. Mrs. Anton reminded students of their opportunities to participate in F.A.T. Cats and Archery. If you are interested in these activities, please contact Mrs. Anton for more information.
To close out this post, I thought that you all might like to know what is happening in the classrooms for School Counseling Lessons: This month, my first visit to the classrooms is an introductory type of lesson, a Meet the Counselor lesson. This first time in the classroom gives me a chance to see all students, for them to be introduced to the important school counselor forms online, and for them to know me as their School Counselor and what I can do for them. My second lesson in the classrooms this month will be about bullying prevention and intervention. This is a very important lesson, which will lead us into the rest of the school year.
I look forward to working with these amazing students, and I am excited to keep you all posted on what is going on in the Forsyth Middle School Counselor's office. Enjoy your day!
